Sci-Fi Story Series Part 1 : Adventures of Sifar - Inception
Mr.
Hind was class one officer on a cruiser but now promoted to captain of spaceship, not any ordinary cruise ship you may imagine, but newly built, top of the line ship with only one purpose to travel as fast as possible with current technology can achieve. How
fast? you may ask, well, our universe has defined the ultimate speed limit, the speed
of light which is 299,792,458 m/s but
for any object with mass , it is impossible to reach such speed, you see there
are limitations to that but Mr. Hind is confident that one-day mankind will overcome
this barrier.
By the end of 21st century, scientist made a breakthrough in
travelling in space, which made long distance travel possible. This gave rise to new field, space tourism. People can now travel to distant part of solar system and enjoy
the extreme weathers from Too Hot Mercury and Venus to Cold Planetoid Pluto. But this ship is miles ahead. If this mission is successful, no distance will be too far.
The thing with science is, more solution you find, more problems
it will throw in-front of you. But man is different from other sentient beings, his hunger for more, never
satiate. Travelers are now eyeing to travel more and more distant spaces. Though it is not easy. Light itself take years to travel to our nearest neighboring star
system. With forces unknown, lurking in the dark void are out of human comprehension.
Our nearest star system is Alpha and Proxima centauri which is 4.3 light
years approximately from Earth. Space is huge and mostly empty but God knows
what lies in between, us and the next generation tourist destination, which our
telescopes haven't picked up yet.
So,
Mr. Hind was given a task which no one has attempted yet, but it can be a
milestone for mankind. Mr. Hind beaming with proud, not everyone gets once in a
lifetime opportunity in his days job, to venture into the unknown. To go beyond where no man
has stepped a foot or even laid an eye. Dangerous as it seems, this task requires
absolute confidence and bravery. To take human spaceship as far as possible and
return. To test the limit of human endurance.
The
ship assigned is curiously named Sifar
(Zero). Well, don't underestimate the power of Sifar, placed after any
digit, it can increase the magnitude by the power of 10. But, here Sifar has
a philosophical meaning. Sifar for void, Sifar for unknown, Sifar for
nothingness of space. Sifar has powerful engines, and huge fuel
cells and recycling reservoirs. This ship is perfect for its job, what has lost
in offensive artillery has made up in light weight and maneuverable.
The
final checks on the ship is still in progress and Mr. Hind is busy with top
brass and political officials to discuss the potential of this voyage.

"I
disagree", said Mr. Hind.
"Oh!
you have to disagree with everything, what difference does a small detour would
make? After all you are on the adventure of unknown." said Mr. Kuber in
his nonchalant voice, reading through some edicts.
"With
all due respect sir. There is a difference between calculated risk and
madness.", voice of Hind now started to get a note higher. He feels the
despair.
"Madness!
this is what you call it?" Kuber still consumed in his tabloid but now
getting annoyed and wanted to show the authority over the table.
Raising
his head and one eyebrow at the same time is not your average build up guy.
Kuber is well built personality. He might be a wrestler if not a decision maker
in the Mahasangh (Federation).
"Let
me make one thing clear Hind, there are things you don't understand and stay
clear of it, might as well. I am doing a favor by sponsoring this
little trip of yours. This is not your picnic." Kuber said with little
more emphasis on word 'your'.
"And,
there are things you also don't understand sir" mumbled Hind
"Enough!"
Kuber said with tone of dismissal.
"I
think you have ship to prepare for the travel. Now Go." and Kuber started
to scroll his tabloid again.
"Very
Well Sir, have a good time!" said Hind turned and thought "Stay clear
of me as well".
