Sci-Fi Story Series Part 2 : Adventures of Sifar - The Wow! Signal

Talking with Hind is never easy, sighs Kuber but there are greater things at hand to worry about. Kuber rotated his motorized chair to get the full view from the window behind him. Kuber's office is full of well-connected internet of things. There is nothing out of his reach. He got lost in the thoughts of the past, “So much is lost, yet there is so much to achieve". The view of launch pad looks like a concert night, beams of light with lots of activity going on. "If only...", the trail of thoughts of Kuber was broken by vibration. Kuber picks the call with little hesitation.

"I believe you have taken care of our little problem?", a husky female voice with cold tone said from the other side.

Maya, thought Kuber, ever since she has influenced Mahasangh, she gets demanding day by day.

"I think so, but only for this time."

"Good, this is all we need for now." said the voice.

And silence.

No courtesy for thank you or good bye thought Kuber.

"Now is the right time." murmured Kuber.

Kuber wear his virtual headset which gives him direct access to Sifar's control panel. This should be done delicately, just like a surgery. Kuber open the virtual panel and introduced a piece of code, which will remain dormant like an endospore, till the time is right. There should be no trace of his and code, not even a log entry.

"This should work." smiles Kuber.

Hind walked out of Kuber's office frantically. The last few days were tiring for him both emotionally and physically. This project is dream of his life. He is working on it, since the beginning of his career. An idea that could change space travel forever but Kuber's small detour can ruin everything. Hind was always amazed by the secrets of space and he always wonder on how to reach them.

He read in his school about, how mankind detected gravity waves for the first time in 2017. Each year after that is new advancement in every field of science. It seems that Universe is willing to share its secret. Hind reached to the elevator which connects to skybridge. He walked into the elevator where some of his crew already inside the elevator. Though Sifar is a big ship but thanks to Hive Mind technology most of the control is on ground connected with the artificially intelligent neural network of super computers which control every aspect of Sifar's parameters like Physics of Fluid Movement, Gravity Adjustment, Shield Control, Different Modes etc.  There was a need of very small but very gifted crew. Which can fly Sifar when it will be out of reach of Command Center.

Hind while walking towards Sifar saw his team approaching, "Good Evening Captain”, They all gave him a crisp salute.

Jai, Nia and Smith all are extraordinary candidates, handpicked personally by Hind himself.

"Where is rest of the team?" questioned Hind.

Nia was first to answer as always in her chirpy voice. It is surprising a candidate in her early 20's can make it through such tough competition.

"They will be reporting in few minutes sir", Nia said.

"They better not to be late." said Hind.

"No sir, it’s a dream for all of us. It is difficult to believe that it is about to come true."

It's Hind's dream as well. Once again Hind went back in the past. It all began on August 15, 1977 when a signal is received from unknown source, in space, by Ohio State University's Big Ear radio telescope in the United States. Astronomer Jerry R. Ehman was first to detect this anomaly and wrote Wow! circling it, which is now famously known as the Wow signal.

Ever since, after that scientists tried to make sense out of it. The signal was never received again Until 2027!

With modern gadgets and cutting-edge technology scientists not only triangulated the signal direction which is in Sagittarius constellation's direction as identified at the time of original signal in 1977. But,they also calculated the distance as well, to be around 5300 lightyears away from us!
